Relieve Painful TMJ Symptoms with Occlusal Therapy

Do you experience jaw pain, neck pain, or headaches after restless nights of teeth grinding? If so, you might have temporomandibular jaw disorder (TMJ), a disorder that affects the joint connecting your jawbone to your skull.
Alas, there’s good news! Your TMJ specialist is right here in Marietta, and he wants to help you find relief from TMJ. With occlusal therapy, you will be able to experience better sleep, less pain throughout the day, and improved daily functioning. Because TMJ sometimes occurs due to jaw misalignment, occlusal therapy helps to correct your bite and reduce the stress on your smile. If you experience jaw, neck, or head pain, ask your dentist about readjusting your jaw with occlusal therapy.

We often get questions about the causes of TMJ and any prevention methods. Though there is no specific cause, we have found some relation between jaw trauma and TMJ. Additionally, teeth grinding (bruxism) and arthritis may contribute to TMJ in some people. Since there isn’t one main cause, there also aren’t prevention methods to watch for. Some of our clients do, however, find relief with daily jaw exercises that we can teach you next time you come in.
It’s possible. TMJ causes tension headaches for many people. When a person with TMJ experiences stress, they often clench their teeth, building up pressure and pain in the jaw and its joints. In a series of facial contractions, headaches begin to form. To find out if TMJ is the cause of your headaches, please contact our dental office for a consultation to get diagnosed. With TMJ treatment, we can help you live headache-free again!
